Japan and Korea Time Zones

JST and KST (both UTC+9), no DST, and offsets vs China, the US, and Europe.

Japan and South Korea each use a single national zone: **UTC+9** year-round with **no daylight saving**. IANA IDs are Asia/Tokyo and Asia/Seoul. Tokyo and Seoul show the same clock time, but holidays and business customs differ.

Regional comparisons

  • Beijing (UTC+8): 1 hour behind Tokyo/Seoul
  • Singapore, Hong Kong, Taipei (UTC+8): also 1 hour behind
  • Sydney (AEST/AEDT): 1–2 hours difference depending on Australian DST
  • Los Angeles (PST/PDT): typically 16–17 hours behind

Scheduling

  • Asia–US/EU overlap is narrow — someone often takes an early or late slot
  • With Europe: 5 PM Tokyo ≈ 9 AM Berlin (CET winter)
  • With US East: Tokyo morning = previous evening in New York
  • Use Convert; no DST keeps math stable
