Japan and Korea Time Zones
JST and KST (both UTC+9), no DST, and offsets vs China, the US, and Europe.
Japan and South Korea each use a single national zone: **UTC+9** year-round with **no daylight saving**. IANA IDs are Asia/Tokyo and Asia/Seoul. Tokyo and Seoul show the same clock time, but holidays and business customs differ.
Regional comparisons
- Beijing (UTC+8): 1 hour behind Tokyo/Seoul
- Singapore, Hong Kong, Taipei (UTC+8): also 1 hour behind
- Sydney (AEST/AEDT): 1–2 hours difference depending on Australian DST
- Los Angeles (PST/PDT): typically 16–17 hours behind
Scheduling
- Asia–US/EU overlap is narrow — someone often takes an early or late slot
- With Europe: 5 PM Tokyo ≈ 9 AM Berlin (CET winter)
- With US East: Tokyo morning = previous evening in New York
- Use Convert; no DST keeps math stable
